Volunteering
As a local voluntary organisation Age Concern Central Lancashire remains dependent on volunteers to deliver many of its services which support older people.
Our support falls into three main categories:
- Supporting people with memory concerns, both at an early stage of diagnosis or later as they develop complex conditions;
- Supporting people to continue living independently at home, whether that be through increasing their income, offering companionship or supporting their health and social care needs;
- Offering opportunties for older people to take part in social, recreational, educational or intergenerational acitivities.
We also need volunteers to help in our two charity shops in Bamber Bridge and Plunginton and to support our many other roles within the organisation.
We believe there is a volunteering opportunity for everyone and that everyone has skills, knowledge or expertise they can offer.
For further information on some of the opportunties on offer, the support we offer and how to join our valued team of volunteers please contact, our Volunteer Co-ordinator on volunteers@55plus.org.uk or by calling 01772 552850

My name is Joyce and I have made another “new” friend through volunteering-even though I’ve always known her.
*To give something back to society
*To learn something new and keep my brain active
*To make new friends
*To develop my skills in different contexts
*To help develop the organisation by contributing my knowledge and skills
*To feel I am working in an ethical organisation
*To feel I can offer new ideas
*To be in a position to learn about issues for elderly people
- To feel included and regarded as an asset
- To keep my skills up to scratch and develop new ones
- To be out of the house interacting with people
- To improve my mental health
- To get a good reference
- Keep my brain active
- Learn about people and the community
- Supporting a local service boost my confidence
- To keep me physically fit
To pass on and use my past knowledge and skills on Attendance Allowance and Disability Living allowance forms. This hopefully will help – using my wise old mothers words “If you are ill and old-at least be ill and old in comfort”. Which is what benefits can achieve.
All in all in enjoy my time as a volunteer and have learned such a lot about the services and support Age Concern provide to the community.
