Community Support and Information Service offers free, confidential and independent guidance to individuals and their carers on a range of issues including:

The service offers individuals the opportunity to discuss issues over the telephone, face to face in an office environment or by arrangement at home. We are able to deal with general enquiries or take on complex case work.

Information and support is generally around:

-Access to welfare benefits, social funds - assistance with complex forms and procedures
-Mediation, letter writing, dealing with junk mail, setting up direct debits
-Moving into residential/ nursing home
-Home safety, carbon monoxide testing, keeping warm, Energy funds, accident prevention
-Support Plans

When Community Support and Information Officer Mike Webster conducted a benefit check for a service user he never imagined it would result in a case lasting six months. Mike had initially been told the the service user wanted to apply for Attendance Allowance, but when he visited her at home it transpired that she had been on the benefit previously but it had been stopped. After some investigation, Mike found that the service user had spent a lengthy period in a residential care home over two years ago and this was when the benefit had stopped. However, further investigation reveal that the payments should have been resumed when the service user got home.
